Congratulations Woodsboro Students, Families, PTA, and Staff!

As our school year comes to a close I am pleased to congratulate and share with you some of our many achievements this year!

At a District Ceremony last Wednesday, Woodsboro Elementary School was awarded the distinction of being named an "AVID Elementary School Certified Site."

Congratulations to everyone for the two years of hard work during the certification process. We are all proud of our AVID Elementary Team, with special thanks to Jodie Hawkins for being our school site AVID Coach.

The AVID Certification process measured Woodsboro’s integration of the following AVID components:

Student Success Skills – encompassing communication skills (e.g. listening, speaking, and writing), self-advocacy skills, note-taking strategies, critical thinking, and study skills.

Organizational Skills – both mental and physical; students learn to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skills around time management and goal-setting.

WICOR Lessons – emphasize instruction on writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to learn in all content areas.

Partnerships – among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, feeder patterns, families, and communities.

Also, in no particular order, I would like to celebrate with you some of the many activities, awards, and events we have participated in this year.  They include fine arts, character development, academics, family involvement, history, science, math, and reading activities that are over and above a “basic” education. We have our PTA, teachers, staff, parents, and students to thank! I probably did not remember everything and everyone to thank, but thank you too!

Election Day

Don’t forget to vote! Plan ahead. The Statewide Direct Primary Election is June 5, 2018, and polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm. Regretfully, Woodsboro is not a polling site this year due to space restrictions. This means you should check your election materials for your polling site or use your mail-in ballot. You will not be able to drop off ballots at Woodsboro this year. We are studying the possibility of becoming a polling site once again for future elections, provided we can solve space and security issues.

Woodsboro Elementary School

BEE Mail

March 2018

Principal’s Message

In light of the recent events around the country, I want to let you know that we are continuing to implement and revise our School Safety Plan to keep our school, children and our staff safe.  As a part of our on-going plan, we installed Loc-Blocks on all classroom doors. These devices allow teachers to keep their doors locked at all times, but propped slightly open so students can enter. In the event of an emergency, the door can be completely locked in a few seconds, without having to look for a key. Each month we hold an emergency drill for students and staff. The drills include fire drills, earthquake drills, and lockdown drills. We have a written protocol, developed with the police departments that serve PYLUSD, for three levels of lockdown readiness. The detailed protocol is attached. District-wide, we are improving outside lighting, and developing uniform visitor procedures that will include uniform badging and sign-in for visitors, plus procedures for screening volunteers.

On a daily basis, we monitor traffic safety at drop-off and pick-up times. For our traffic to flow smoothly, it is important that no one stops in traffic lanes to let children in or out of vehicles. Always park in a legal parking place, or use the drop off/pick up lane. Please do not park in front of fire hydrants, driveways, or red zones. Note that the curbs on both sides of the cross walk are painted red to increase the safety zone. I believe that by paying attention to details we can all help keep our children safe.

Its responsibilities include providing input for the annual goals of the school and reviewing the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) (including the Woodsboro school budget). The SSC recommends the LCAP to the PYLUSD governing board. I would like to thank each parent who offered their service to our school by accepting a nomination to the Woodsboro School Site Council.
