Principal’s Message

Welcome to 2018! I can’t believe the year is nearly half over. The coming months will be busy ones at Woodsboro, with lots of learning in our classrooms and opportunities for fun events and activities.

It’s cold and flu season. While we like to have students in school and on time every day, we realize that you will need to keep your students home when they are sick. If you do take your students to the doctor, ask for a note from the doctor’s office, as we can use that note to dismiss the absence as an excused medical absence.

The Bully Game

What is the Bully Game? It is a magical game show presented by John Abrams, magician and family entertainer. This fun and exciting assembly will include zany comedy, amazing magic, and audience participation, and leave a life changing impression. It’s truly a Game Show, with students as contestants, the entire student audience involved, and everyone learning valuable lessons about preventing bullying. It’s amazing fun with a terrific message. This memorable assembly will be presented to our students on Tuesday, January 30th with the support of the Woodsboro PBIS committee and the Woodsboro PTA.

REACH Foundation ShamRock ‘n Run

Join us for this fun family and community event supporting enrichment programs for PYLUSD Students.

5K and 2K run/walks are available, and it is held right next door in the Yorba Linda Regional Park on Sunday, March 18, 2018. A portion of your registration fees come directly to Woodsboro! Make sure you indicate Woodsboro as your school when you register online. The Woodsboro PTA is challenging our classes to register and run together, and will provide a special Popsicle party for the primary and the upper grade classroom with the most registrations by the early bird deadline, Sunday, February 18th. Early bird registrants will also receive a ShamRock ‘n Run Tee Shirt from the REACH Foundation! Join Mr. Slonkosky, Honey Bee, and your friends and neighbors at this fun event! Click on the REACH Foundation link for more information: www.reach4pylusd.org

Donations Needed

With so many colds and sniffles, we are running short of Kleenex! Our materials and supply budget is limited and is already running short. If you would like to donate a box of Kleenex, your student may drop it off in the classroom or in the office. This will help us save our supply budget for the materials your students use in the classroom every day.

Volunteers Needed

Do you like to work with books? The Woodsboro Library needs volunteers to help prepare new books for check-out, and with shelving returned books. If you are able to volunteer a few hours per week on a regular basis, you can select your own time. Training will be provided.

Do you like to work with kids? We need one or two parent volunteers to supervise “Buzz Bee’s Store” once a month. As a part of Positive Behavior Reward system, students trade in their Woodsboro Way Cards for prizes. We need parents to set up and monitor the store from 11:15 AM to 1:00 PM just one Friday per month. Student leaders serve as the store clerks. It’s a fun way to get involved at school!

If you are interested in these or any other volunteer opportunities, email dslonkosky@pylusd.org and we will contact you to answer any questions.

Thank you so much for your involvement with our school!

Douglas Slonkosky, Principal
